A unique and beautifully atmospheric Swedish procession and service of light, featuring the 30-strong Youth Choir from Lötenkyrkan, Gamla Uppsala Parish in Sweden, led by Director of Music Gunnel Hällqvist.
The service is held in conjunction with Nordic Church in Liverpool and its supporting charity Liverpool international Nordic Community Company.
A candle-lit performance of the choir in the darkened cathedral is part of the service, starting with a candle-lit procession of the choir up to the transept area They then sing Swedish traditional Lucia songs and the performance is concluded with a candle-lit retreat of the choir.
The Lucia songs and carols are traditionally sung in Sweden on the morning of 13 December by family’s children, by employees at work and by choirs in hospitals and official places.
On one of the darkest mornings of the year Lucia offers, with the lit candles on her head, traditional saffron buns (lussekatter), ginger biscuits (pepparkakor) and coffee to the family in remembrance of what she did as a martyr so many years ago.
Tickets are priced at £10.00. (Children under 12 free)
